Travelers who visit the Island of Bali don’t just enjoy the crowds of tourist attractions where there are crowds of people, such as the Kuta Beach area, Tanah Lot and Bedugul and others. They are also interested in exploring the beauty of nature.
After the Covid-19 pandemic, there is a trend of visits for nature tourism such as to rural areas. In addition to making it easier to keep their distance because the visits are not overwhelming, they also get freshness because of the natural scenery and clean air. Related to this, Bali has many natural tourist destinations to explore such as clove, cocoa, coffee or coconut plantation areas.
Well, one of the favorite plantation commodities in the highlands is clove. These plantations stretch from Jembrana in West Bali (such as Bunutbolong Village), Pupuan and Pancoran (Tabanan) and Busungbiu, Wanagiri, Munduk and Gobleg (Buleleng), Evening (Badung) to Bukit Jambul and Kintamani (Bangli).
Clove is a spice plant and is widely used as an ingredient in traditional medicine. In addition, cloves also produce essential oils which are commonly used as raw materials for the pharmaceutical and food industries. Meanwhile, it is mostly used as raw material for cigarettes, where this industry is located on the Island of Java.
In general, there are four varieties of cloves that are often cultivated in Indonesia, including in Bali. The superior varieties that become farmers’ commodities at this time are Karo Zanzibar, Gorontalo Zanzibar, AFO and Tuni Bursel clove.
Tourist destinations
The movement of the clove leaves in the wind gives a refreshing feeling like watching a natural dance. Moreover, the small branches are covered with bird’s feet, of course it will be very pleasant to watch because in the city we cannot find a view like this.
One of the ways to enjoy and admire this natural beauty is by making a trekking in the hills to a village or waterfall on the cold border of Munduk-Gobleg Village. It is known as one of the centers of clove plantation in Northern Bali.
Or if you happen to be visiting the Bunut Bolong tourist attraction in Jembrana, on the way to the highlands you will be greeted by clove trees at right and left side of the road. And the air feels cooler or fresher.
During the clove harvest season, you will find farmers picking cloves where they erect ladders around the clove trees with several stretching safety ropes. They look so happy while joking or playing music.
After that, the villages around the clove plantations will emit a fragrant aroma because the local people simultaneously dry out their clove flowers on their roofs or their yards.
Well, that’s the uniqueness of natural adventures in the countryside with clove plantation areas. You will not only enjoy the visual beauty of the clove trees but also the distinctive aroma of cloves that you might normally find in rubbing oil or cigarettes. Happy traveling!
